Why We Fell in Love with Denver: Our Favorite Spots in the Mile High City

As a real estate agent in Denver, I often find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences that make this city so special. My wife and I explored Denver’s vibrant neighborhoods, eclectic dining scene, and stunning cultural landmarks prior to moving here from Florida, and it was an easy decision to make when the time came to choose our next destination. From historic taverns to breathtaking amphitheaters, here are the spots that captured our hearts and ultimately led us to call Denver home.

1. Angelo’s Taverna - A Taste of Classic Charm

Our love affair with Denver began at Angelo’s Taverna, a charming eatery nestled in the heart of the city in between the Capital Hill and Alamo Placita neighborhoods. This classic Italian-American restaurant is renowned for its delicious comfort food and welcoming atmosphere. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the warm, rustic décor and the tantalizing aroma of homemade Italian dishes (and homemade limoncello wall). Their Spaghetti Carbonara is a standout, with its creamy sauce and perfectly cooked pasta. Other favorites include their Lobster Gnocchi, Burrata, Chargrilled Oysters, and Mushroom Agnolotti.

2. Union Lodge No.1 - A Sip of History

Union Lodge No.1 is more than just a cocktail bar—it’s a journey back in time. This speakeasy-style bar in Denver offers a unique blend of history and mixology. We were captivated by their expertly crafted cocktails and the vintage atmosphere that transports you to the Prohibition era. The Corpse Reviver #2, with its refreshing blend of gin, Cointreau, and Lillet Blanc, was an instant favorite. The bar’s dedication to classic cocktails and historic charm made it a memorable part of our experience. Personal favorites are the Union Gin Fizz and Old Fashioned.

3. Denver Art Museum - A Cultural Treasure

The Denver Art Museum is a cornerstone of Denver’s cultural scene, and visiting it was a transformative experience for us. The museum’s extensive collection spans from indigenous art to contemporary pieces, offering something for every art lover. We were particularly impressed by their Indigenous Art Collection, which showcases intricate and meaningful works that reflect the rich heritage of Native American cultures.

4. Red Rocks Amphitheater - An Iconic Venue

Red Rocks Amphitheater is more than just a concert venue—it’s a natural wonder. Located just a short drive from downtown Denver, this open-air amphitheater is surrounded by stunning red rock formations that create a unique and unforgettable concert experience. Attending a show here, we were awestruck by the breathtaking views and the incredible acoustics. Whether you're catching a live performance or hiking the trails, Red Rocks is a testament to Denver’s natural beauty and vibrant music scene. You can also get married at the nearby Trading Post Backyard!

5. City Park - Urban Oasis

City Park is a green haven in the heart of Denver, and it quickly became one of our favorite places to unwind. The park offers expansive lawns, picturesque lakes, and stunning views of the city skyline against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. We enjoyed leisurely strolls, picnics by the lake, and exploring the Denver Zoo located within the park.

6. The Dairy Block - A Trendy Hub

The Dairy Block is a vibrant mixed-use development that captures Denver’s trendy spirit. With its chic boutiques, eclectic dining options, and lively events, the Dairy Block quickly won us over. We enjoyed exploring the unique shops and indulging in delicious food at places like Blanchard Family Wines and The Milk Market. The modern yet historic charm of the Dairy Block exemplifies the dynamic energy of Denver.

7. Larimer Square - Historic Charm Meets Modern Flair

Larimer Square is a must-visit for anyone exploring Denver. This historic district is renowned for its charming Victorian architecture, upscale shops, and diverse dining options. We loved wandering through the square’s pedestrian-friendly streets, dining at the renowned Osteria Marco, and enjoying the lively atmosphere. A few great spots here include Comedy Works, Disco Pig, Emerald Eye, Huckleberry Roasters, Tamayo, and Van Leeuwen's Ice Cream Shop.

Our journey through Denver’s iconic spots revealed a city rich in culture, natural beauty, and vibrant energy. Whether you’re exploring historic taverns, enjoying world-class art, or soaking in breathtaking views at Red Rocks, Denver offers something special for everyone.
